Friends of Georgia Awards Banquet and Gala
August 26th at the Olde Towne Athletic Club in Marietta.
This year we'll honor six Georgia Radio Legends
--Carol Blackmon, Rick Caffey, Mark Kanov,
Charles Kinney, Alan Sneed, and Ken Woodfin---
celebrate the state's most Innovative radio stations and people,
and award college scholarships for Georgia students
pursuing careers in the audio arts.
And we're proud and grateful to announce
Ernie Johnson, Jr. will host our event this year!
Ernie is one of the best-loved sports broadcasters in the country, hosting TNT's Inside the NBA, Turner and CBS's NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship coverage, and Major League Baseball on TBS.
And he got his start in Georgia radio, first on the University of Georgia's WUOG 90.5FM, then at Q105 Athens (now Atlanta's 104.7 The Fish). Then he moved into TV, first at Macon's WMAZ, then to Greenville at WSPA, and finally at Atlanta's WSB TV, and then worked with his father at Turner Sports, calling Atlanta Braves baseball games.
Ernie is a 6-time Sports Emmy award winner, an inductee into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and a 1978 graduate of the University of Georgia.
